Chocolate Milk 101: Black mothers and their baby's first food

Join us for a discussion lead by Dr. LaVonne Moore, a nurse, midwife and lactation consultant, about the history of breastfeeding and current disparities that exist for Black /African American mothers. Dr. Moore will provide insight about different aspects of breastfeeding including: what to expect, common barriers and how to overcome them, and how family and others can provide support.

Food and transportation reimbursement will be provided. Each mother will receive a gift bag of items to support their breastfeeding journey including: a Visa gift card, breast pump, bottles and Liquid Gold book.

Registration is limited to 40 participants.

About the speaker:

Dr. LaVonne Moore, DNP, RN, CNM, CNP, IBCLC, ICCE is founder and CEO of Chosen Vessels Midwifery Services where she addresses health disparities for women of color by providing training, health counseling and lactation and birth support.

Dr. Moore has a Doctor of Nursing Practice from St. Catherine University, a Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Arts in Health & Human Services Administration from St. Mary’s University. She is a Certified Nurse Midwife, Certified Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and Certified Childbirth Educator. She is adjunct faculty at St. Catherine’s University and Thomas Edison College, teaching graduate nursing and women’s health courses.

She has been a health provider, educator, and activist in her community for decades, desiring that all women would prosper and be in good health. Her goal is to inspire women to use midwives for care throughout their lifespan and to recognize the importance of breastfeeding because she believes that good health begins with breastfeeding!
