Several new laws took effect July 1 that were passed during the 2020 regular session, according to the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus (MSRC).
The laws include areas of agriculture, energy and health and human services, the MSRC release states. Republican Sens. Torrey Westrom (R-Elbow Lake), David Osmek (R-Mound), Julie Rosen (R-Vernon) and Scott Jensen (R-Chaska) sponsored the new bills.
In agriculture, a law that makes funding changes and makes tractor safety part of a new law was passed. That law allocates funding to the Agriculture Research, Education, Extension and Technology Transfer program at the University of Minnesota's Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for testing equipment and supplies to help with turkey-related diseases, salmonella and the avian flu.
Another law provides $25.8 million from the Renewable Development Account to be used is rooftop solar projects, the release states.
Diabetics will be able to access emergency insulin via another law, while drug makers will have to provide justification for large price increases in another.
