Today, the Ramsey County Housing and Redevelopment Authority approved a total of $2.3 million in grant recommendations to fund 14 local redevelopment projects. The HRA decision activates the county's first distribution of Critical Corridors Grants, a new program funded by the Housing Redevelopment Authority (HRA) levy.
Project awards are almost evenly split between Saint Paul and suburban cities. Selected redevelopment projects in Saint Paul will receive a total of $1,119,007 in HRA levy funding. Suburban Ramsey County cities such as Mounds View, New Brighton, Roseville, White Bear Lake, Maplewood, Arden Hills and Shoreview will receive a total of $1,211,940, which includes the reallocation of $500,000 of HRA levy funding from the Spring 2022 Inclusive Housing Development Solicitation. This reallocation is due to a previously awarded project not moving forward this year.
The Critical Corridors Grants solicitation prioritized place-based investments along major transportation, commercial and cultural corridors. Project selection was also heavily based on key strategies outlined in the county's Economic Competitiveness & Inclusion Plan and Equitable Development Framework. Project grants will help invest into equitable planning, advance inclusive redevelopment and support suburban small business pathways for racially and ethnically diverse entrepreneurs.
