The History of Psychology **

with J.B. Andersen

Wednesday March 23, 30; April 6,13, 27; May 4 at 12:30 to 2 (Note: No class on April 20.)

Join JB Andersen for a look at the history of psychology as an academic discipline and in the popular imagination. Examine prominent psychologists and their work, including Stanley Milgram, Sigmund Freud, and Alfred Adler. Explore psychology in pop culture including hypnosis, dream analysis, the id, ego, and superego and the role of birth order in personality.

March 30--Sigmund Freud-- Influences and Early Work

April 6---Sigmund Freud--The Development of Psychoanalysis and the Theory of Dreams

April 13 -- What Did Freud Get Wrong; Freud's Critics and His Times

April 20--NO TALK

April 27--Alfred Adler and the Theory of Inferiority

May 4--Carl Jung; Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious

J.B. Andersen is an educator, curator, historian, and writer. He is the creator of the popular Presidents Series.

This series is co-sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the University of MN with the financial support of the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries.

This is an online class offered remotely using Zoom communication software. Register online or by calling 651-724-6001 (press #2). You must provide a valid email address to participate.

After registration, participants will receive an email from the library prior to class with additional instructions.   An invitation with a Zoom link to the day's talk will be sent on the morning of each class.
