City of Shoreview issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.
The following is an official statement from Mayor Sandy Martin regarding the announcement by Deluxe Corporation to relocate their headquarters to downtown Minneapolis and create a new financial services center in Atlanta, Georgia:
The City of Shoreview is disappointed in the announcement by Deluxe Corporation that they will be leaving our community. Deluxe and Shoreview have shared a unique and close bond over the years, first when the company moved to our community as Deluxe Check Printers, and later when we financially assisted with their acquisition and development of the current headquarters campus.
The city was again prepared to partner with Deluxe by offering our full support and strong commitment to providing financial incentives to facilitate reinvestment and growth at their Shoreview campus. Unfortunately, their leadership and board of directors have decided the company’s future is best suited elsewhere.
Proudly calling Shoreview home for so many decades, Deluxe grew from a small check printing company to an industry giant, and then successfully transformed to a leader in business and technology services. We have enjoyed a long and close relationship with Deluxe, and we have valued their support of our community. We respect their decision to relocate, recognizing it is beyond the city’s control, based on what they believe to be their long-term best interest and vision. We wish them continued success in the future.
The loss of 600+ jobs from our community is difficult, but we are fortunate to have a very diverse and strong business community to lessen the impact. Many Deluxe employees are residents and active members of the Shoreview community. So we are pleased that Deluxe will retain their corporate headquarters within the Twin Cities region, rather than completely moving out of our state.
It is our hope that Deluxe Corporation will work in close partnership with the city during this transition period, in keeping with the close relationship we have valued over the past 50+ years. We are encouraged by their stated commitment to ensure the Shoreview property is sold to a quality developer that meets our expectations and vision, serving as a final and lasting legacy to the community. The 50-acre property was never fully developed by Deluxe, so we see a great opportunity to maximize this prime site for additional high quality development.
Shoreview is a strong and vibrant community with many wonderful amenities and assets that make us a great place for business. I have great confidence that we are well positioned to attract new high quality businesses that will provide additional development, more jobs and enhanced tax base.
