St. Paul-Ramsey County Public Health (SPRCPH) officials recently announced that it is working on a Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) initiative.
The initiative aims to create policy to bring changes that will address preventable diseases.
SHIP and SPRCPH said that they will fund several small grants to support new or existing community gardens within the county.
The two organizations also said that there is a total of $10,000 available for the small gardens that qualify for the grants. The organizations say that multiple garden projects will be awarded. The organizations added that the funds must be allocated by Saturday, Oct. 31.
Acceptable uses for the funds include staff time, supplies for building a shed, tools that may be needed, building benches, lumber, seeds and other gardening supplies.
Unacceptable uses of the funds include labor, education and event costs.
Garden owners are encouraged to apply for grants up until the Tuesday, Sept. 1 deadline. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated after the deadline. After that, the reviews will continue until all the funds are disbursed.
