State Sen. Roger Chamberlain wants Minnesota schools to open their doors again in the fall.
Chamberlain considered distance learning a stopgap at best, stating that most parents, educators and students agree that children need to return to the classroom.
“I’ve had many conversations with educators and parents and what I have learned about distance learning has been eye-opening,” the senator said on the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus’ website. “Educators and parents are concerned and frustrated.”
School districts across Minnesota are waiting for Gov. Tim Walz to make an announcement on his plans for how Gopher State children will receive an education.
Chamberlain cited a Minnesota Department of Education survey that showed 64% of parents want schools to reopen. The same survey revealed that 53% had a bad or very bad experience with distance learning.
The lawmaker also cited Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield, who said children are better off if they go back to school.
