Gov. Tim Walz is permitting churches to reopen at 25% capacity and he has also allowed bars and restaurants to reopen at limited capacity on June 1, serving up to 50 people.
The Center for Disease Control issued guidelines for reopening churches, which Walz plans on adhering to. It includes safety precautions and best practices during reopening.
Churches will be permitted to have a maximum of 10 people. According to The Center Square, Walz met with church leaders to discuss their needs and concerns.
“I have had many meaningful conversations with faith leaders over the last few weeks,” Walz said, according to The Center Square. “From a personal and public health perspective, the decision around places of worship has been a challenging one since the beginning of the pandemic. We know large gatherings of people raise the risk of spreading COVID-19. We also know worship is an essential part of many Minnesotans’ lives, including mine.”
