University of Minnesota sophomore Nibir Sarma recently won the first place prize of $100,000 in Jeopardy’s annual college competition.
“It definitely feels awesome to have won the tournament,” the 2020 Jeopardy! College Championship winner said in an article on UMN’s website. “Once I hit the last Daily Double in the second day of finals—the one on which I wagered $5—that was when I was thinking to myself, ’Yep, that's it. Game over.’”
Sarma decided to try out for the game show’s college tournament after playing the game with his friends using previously featured questions on the show. He took an online test and had an interview and audition in St. Louis. He then traveled to Los Angeles where the competition was filmed.
Sarma was one of 15 students in the nation to be chosen to participate in Jeopardy! College Championship. He is currently studying chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering.
